Entry into BIOL 1020 now requires 40s Chemistry, 40s Biology and one of the 40s Math courses from High School. If a student does not have 40s biology successful completion of BIOL 1000 - Foundations of life, will allow for registration in BIOL 1020.

To enter the Biological Sciences Honours program a student must have completed at least 24 credit hours with a minimum GPA of 3.00, and obtained a minimum grade of "B" in BIOL 1030. CHEM 1300, CHEM 1310, STAT 1000 and 3 credit hours of Mathematics (eg: MATH 1200, MATH 1300 or MATH 1500), Physics (eg: PHYS 1020 or PHYS 1050) or Statistics and six credit hours from the faculty of Arts, which should include a "W" course, are program requirements. Students are strongly urged to complete these courses in first year.
To enter the Biological Sciences four year Major program a student must have completed a minimum of 24 credit hours with a minimum DGPA of 2.00, and obtained a minimum grade of “C+” in BIOL 1030. CHEM 1300, CHEM 1310, STAT 1000 and 3 credit hours of Mathematics (eg: MATH 1200, MATH 1300 or MATH 1500), Physics (eg: PHYS 1020 or PHYS 1050) or Statistics and six credit hours from the faculty of Arts, which should include a "W" course, are program requirements. Majors or Honours students in the Department of Biological Sciences must complete the following core courses:

- BIOL 2520 Cell Biology
Students must take one course from Group A (below) and one course from Group B, and a further course from either Group A or group B.

- BIOL 3470 Environmental Physiology of Animals I
